Week Eight of the 2022 Pepper Season
It’s been just about five weeks since the last pepper update and, for the most part, things have been progressing as normal. As you’ll see below, the plants have grown quite a bit in that time and are doing well. I chose note to post every week, well, because from a week-to-week basis, you really don’t see much in the way of development.
Like I stated above, the plants are doing well with one exception. I’ve got an orange sweet variety that I grew out last year with seeds I harvested from a pepper purchased at the grocery store. Last year’s plant from the same seed stock did well enough and produced a handful of ripe peppers. The particular plant under the grow light right now seems a bit sickly. We’ll keep our eyes on it as we get closer to the time to harden off.
This past weekend, I took advantage of the incredibly wonderful weather and got the pepper pots all situated around the yard. They are filled with a mixture of two parts Leafgro (leaf compost), one part peat moss and a dash of perlite. This combination has worked quite well for me in years past and it simply makes sense to keep rolling with it. Now, the plants still have several weeks before we begin hardening off so they won’t see these pots for some time, but I like to get them set up early to let the dirt settle and come together during that time.
That’s it for now. Happy gardening!
