2023 Pepper Season: Early July Update
Well, the site has been pretty quiet this season thus far. That’s due mostly to the slowness of the plants in terms of their overall growth. Even now that almost all of them are at least a foot tall, they are still well behind last year at this same point in the season.
This time last year, I was already harvesting small amounts of ripe fruit. For 2023, however, there are only a handful of plants that have even started blooming, let alone starting to fruit. I’m pretty sure I know the cause(s) of the slowness, but I’ll address that in a post later on this season. For now, I’m just thrilled to finally start seeing some expedited growth and small peppers beginning to appear on plants.
So far, I’ve got the following plants with immature fruit:
- Jalapeno
- Agata’s Tongue
- Alba Regia
- Cumra Cherry
- Macapa Red
- Hangjiao 3 – Solar Flare
- White Thai
- Red Bell
I’m hoping the Virginia Summer heat and sun will really start kicking the season into high gear. Until then, happy gardening!
