2022 Pepper Season: Week 6 Update
With the last update on the pepper plants, we saw that little peppers had just started to arrive. Two weeks later, and we’ve got even more varieties sporting little fruit on their limbs. Each of the 34 plants I have going this year have buds and flowers blooming, while just over half of those have fruit developing. At this point in the season, I’d say we’re on track – and the plants keep getting bigger and bigger each day. This is a short update, but I figured it would be fun to check out a few of the peppers that currently have fruit.
Below, you can see the Aci Sivri is coming along nicely. It’s got several unripe fruit on it that have already reached five inches in length. As of right now, this one is in the lead to deliver the first ripe pepper of the season.
While the above pepper is cranking along nicely, the most attractive plant thus far has been the Purple Tiger x Jalapeno. It’s hard to see in the photo below, but the leaves have an incredible variegation to them that starts out purple before fading to white. The fruit are intensely dark purple right now as well.
And finally, another fun cross that should be pretty tasty. Below is Joy’s Ghost Cayenne and it actually looks a bit more gnarly than I was expecting. We’ll see if that wrinkly skin smooths out over time.
That’s it for today. Happy gardening!
