2022 Pepper Season: Starting to Harvest
It’s been a few weeks since the last update, but good news is here! Ripe peppers are just now starting to trickle into the house. That trickle should eventually – hopefully – turn into a full on torrent in a couple of weeks. As of today, all but one variety in my garden has pods in various stages of development. The only hold out right now are my Brown Rocotos and I’m beginning to think that the local heat may be a bit too much for them.
As you can see in the photo above, the plants in the raised beds are doing quite well. Aside from the Brown Rocoto, all have put on some serious size since the last update and are loaded with fruit. I’ve got a few plants – Sugar Rush Stripey, Habanero de Arbol and Pineapple Ghost, for example – that are pushing four feet in height already.
The below photos are of a Bahamian Beast and a Brown Jalapeno. Both are loaded with fruit with the Beast just about ready to pick a couple. The photo of this Jalapeno variety does not do the size of its pods any justice – they are massive.
And finally, all of the potted plants are doing equally well. Each one has got good size and, for those that I haven’t stolen a couple of ripe peppers from, should be delivering a good number of pods in the next week or so. There are a couple of plants here that are either not what I had purchased or are not producing fruit with the correct levels of heat – more on those as we get to individual pepper reviews.
Until the next update, happy gardening!
